2 neon companies confirm suspension of production
Two of Ukraine's main neon gas suppliers, Ingas and Cryoin, have ceased operations due to ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
Ingas is based in Mariupol, which is controlled by Russia. Before the Russian attack, Ingas was producing 15,000 to 20,000 cubic meters of neon gas per month for customers in Taiwan, China, South Korea, the United States and Germany, with about 75 percent going to the chip industry, chief commercial Officer Nikolay Avdzhy said in an email.
Another neon company, Cryoin in Odessa, Ukraine, produces approximately 10,000 to 15,000 cubic meters of neon per month. Larissa Bondarenko, Cryoin's director of business development, said the company halted operations on Feb. 24 to protect the safety of its employees when the Russian attack began.
Bondarenko said the company will not be able to fulfill an order for 13,000 cubic meters of neon gas in March unless the fighting stops. She said the company could survive at least three months with the plant closed. But she warned that if equipment was damaged, it would be a bigger drag on the company's finances, making it harder to restart operations quickly. She also said it was uncertain whether the company would be able to obtain the additional raw materials needed to make neon gas.
